After a great collaboration with Verizon last year on the Glitchcon spot, our team at Carbon was sought out again by the Madwell Agency. This time we handled the live action shoot as well as all the lovely post work. Directed by Carbon’s Liam Chapple, I served as CG Supervisor, lookdev artist, tracker, animator, and lighter. A particular highlight was developing our strategy for the CG gecko who needed to meld with the actor’s performance on a very tight deadline. Using separate geo tracks for the sternum and head our gecko’s head and chest could remain parented to the actor’s while also allowing for layers of hand animation on top. After the shoot our gecko shots came to life with minimum effort, I just wish we had more of them!
I also had a great time helping R&D our “8-Bit Wizard.” I specified that we should find a real pixel artist to animate the character in 2D and then use Maya’s MASH system to bring it to life as procedural voxels. Big thanks to Diego Rago, it turned out so cute!
